Controls issues at the end of a project are usually not caused by one single failure, but by a chain of missed decisions, late coordination, incomplete devices, unfinished systems, and unrealistic startup expectations. This presentation breaks down the ten most common reasons building automation becomes a punch list headache and offers practical ways contractors, owners, and project teams can reduce delays, callbacks, and closeout frustration.
Learning objectives:
- Identify the most common causes of controls-related punch list items at the end of a construction project.
- Explain how incomplete coordination, late decisions, missing devices, and unfinished systems contribute to closeout issues.
- Evaluate the role of communication between trades, contractors, and owners in preventing controls problems.
- Implement practical steps during design, construction, and startup to reduce controls punch list items and improve turnover.
