Building automation often looks like a small piece of the construction scope, but behind the scenes it depends on design decisions, coordination milestones, equipment selections, network planning, installation sequencing, programming, commissioning, and owner training. This presentation pulls back the curtain on the full timeline behind controls work and explains why automation often starts earlier, touches more trades, and extends later into the project than many people expect.
Learning objectives:
- Identify the major phases of a building automation project and how they align with the overall construction schedule.
- Explain how equipment selection, controls submittals, network coordination, and installation sequencing affect project timelines.
- Recognize why building automation work often extends beyond rough-in and overlaps with startup, commissioning, and closeout.
- Apply scheduling and coordination strategies that help reduce delays and improve project delivery for controls systems.
