Steve Levy installed as 2026 Builders board of directors chair

KANSAS CITY, Mo., March 23, 2026 – The Builders, a chapter of the AGC, is pleased to announce the appointment of its 2026 Board of Directors. Steve Levy, chief operating officer at McCownGordon Construction, was seated as chair of the Board of Directors in a meeting Jan. 22, and a public “passing of the gavel” took place Feb. 19 during the association’s anniversary event.

Levy moved to Kansas City in 2019 to oversee the construction operations of one of the region’s largest general contractors. He was named chief operating officer in 2021 and was appointed to the board of directors for McCownGordon Construction in 2025. He previously oversaw operations for multiple Texas contractors during his 27-year tenure in the Texas market. Levy has been involved with the Associated General Contractors of America throughout his career and joined The Builders board in 2023.

“At the end of the year, I want to be able to say we were a board that resolved issues, supported The Builders strategic goals, refined member services, and addressed workforce development, safety and suicide prevention,” Levy said. “Personally, I want to be able to say I attended as many member events as I possibly could to help build connections and recruit new members by speaking to the benefits of being part of the association.”

Levy will serve as chair alongside Vice Chair Keith Dorrian, A.L. Huber Construction; Assistant Chair Ramsay Manning, SDS Builders, Inc.; and Immediate Past Chair Andy Heitmann, Turner Construction Company.

Newly elected to the board are Kathryn Ashley, Lockton; Tom Axtell, Lexington Plumbing & Heating Co., Inc.; Mark Goodwin, Clark Construction Group, LLC; and Kyle Van Slyke, Musselman & Hall Contractors, LLC.

“Steve is a giant in this industry, bringing decades of construction operations experience to the leadership role,” said Claiborne. ”But beyond the construction acumen, Steve truly cares about advancing the industry and creating opportunities for more people in construction. His passion for workforce development is perfectly aligned with a major focus of The Builders strategic plan, and I’m excited to work alongside him as board chair.”

The ceremonial passing of the gavel to Levy took place during the program portion of The Builders Anniversary Event on Feb. 19, 2026, at the Grand Hall at Power and Light in Kansas City, Missouri. Around 300 members of the association attended.

The Builders also recognized a member volunteer with the Builders Spotlight Award. The award is nominated and voted on by Builders staff to honor individuals whose exceptional contributions to advancing the association’s mission and vision may fly under the radar, yet make a significant impact. The 2026 Builders Spotlight Award winner is Diana Brauer, Kansas Spray Foam Insulation, LLC. Brauer has been involved with The Builders for just a few years, but immediately made an impact when she dove in to help mentor other firms new to the association.

Membership milestone anniversaries are also traditionally recognized at the annual event. This year, The Builders celebrated John Rohrer Contracting Company, Inc.’s 100th year as part of the association. JRCC President Curtis Barkley accepted the recognition on behalf of the employee-owned firm and acknowledged former owner John Rohrer’s commitment to their company and to the industry over the years.
