COLUMBUS, OHIO – Kansas City International Airport New Singe Terminal and Garage was named one of the most significant construction projects of 2024, the Associated General Contractors of America announced today. As a result, the project’s contractor, Clark/Weitz/Clarkson, a Joint Venture, received the association’s Baldwin Group Build America Award for the best design-build building project valued over $100 million.

“Projects like this require an unparalleled level of skill, dedication and competence to pull off,” said Tom Brown, the association’s national president and president of San Diego-based Sierra Pacific West. “This award acknowledges, recognizes and honors the unique accomplishments of the men and women who made this project a success.”

The new 1.1 million square-foot project includes a new, two-level, 40-gate terminal, parking structure, central utility plant, and improved landside and airside areas. The joint venture team of Clark Construction Group, The Weitz Company, and Clarkson Construction Company completed the project ahead of schedule and on budget. One of the greatest challenges of the project involved the 800-foot-long headhouse with a wide front overhang located over an elevated roadway. The joint venture team used a precast wall with steel structure over the top and assembled its columns onsite. They lifted the entire overhang as one piece.

“The Baldwin Group is honored to partner with the AGC to celebrate the 2025 Build America Award recipients and nominees. This year’s award winners exemplify a remarkable fusion of ingenuity and project excellence, setting a new standard that propels the entire construction industry forward,” said Joe Charczenko, Partner & Construction Practice President. “These thoughtfully executed projects do more than just transform blueprints into reality; they breathe new life into our cities, fortify our communities and strengthen our nation’s infrastructure. Receiving one of these prestigious awards is a powerful reminder that collective effort combined with the relentless pursuit of excellence can truly build America.”

“These projects are more than plans and ideas brought to life—they energize our cities, unite our communities, and strengthen the core of our nation’s infrastructure,” said Mark Goodwin, senior vice president at Clark Construction Group. “Receiving this distinguished award is a strong reminder that partnership and an unwavering commitment to excellence are what truly build America.”

President of The Builders, a chapter of the AGC, Lance Claiborne congratulated the member companies for their achievement stating, "We’re extremely proud to have so many of our members and industry partners contribute to this award-winning project. The Clark | Weitz | Clarkson team's work is well-deserving of the recognition. This award highlights the tremendous innovation and collaboration behind this transformative project that has reimagined our front door to the world. We could not be more proud of this joint venture team, their trade partners and the hardworking men and women in our community that worked tirelessly to bring this project to life."

The Baldwin Group Build America Awards highlight the nation’s most significant construction projects. A panel of judges, representing all areas of construction, evaluated an impressive number of submissions this year, assessing each project’s complexity, use of innovative construction techniques and client satisfaction, among other criteria. The awards, which were announced during the association’s annual convention in Columbus, Ohio, are considered by many to be the most prestigious recognition of construction accomplishments in the U.S.
