Heartland’s top construction projects recognized during 2026 Building Excellence Awards

Award ceremony, presented by The Builders, a chapter of the AGC, honored region’s premier construction projects and initiatives during live event in Kansas City

KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 4, 2026 – Hospitality projects were featured heavily throughout the 2026 Building Excellence Awards ceremony, presented by The Builders, a chapter of the AGC.

The 1587 Prime restaurant project, backed by two of the most famous names in Kansas City, took home the top prize in two of the 13 awards categories, and several other hospitality projects were named runners up in their categories. Centric was recognized as a finalist for Cosmo Burger and Arrow Dart Club, A.L. Huber was a finalist for The Carriage Club Coach House Renovation and Addition, and Turner was a finalist for Margaritaville Kansas City.

The 1587 Prime build was the only hospitality project to be crowned a champion in its categories, winning in the Project of the Year by a General Contractor ($5 to $10 Million) category for JE Dunn Construction Company’s work on the restaurant and in the Project of the Year by a Subcontractor ($500,000 to $2 Million) category for E&K of Kansas City, Inc.’s work on the restaurant.

The biennial awards event recognizes outstanding companies in The Builders, a chapter of the AGC for their efforts in advancing the industry, innovation, community impact and construction projects demonstrating the pinnacles of excellence.

Nominations for the Building Excellence Awards opened late in 2025, and submissions were received from firms throughout the Heartland region. A panel of impartial judges deliberated to determine the finalists and winners for each of the 13 categories recognized during the program.

The winners were announced live during the Building Excellence Awards ceremony, which was emceed by Kansas City sports personality Krishna Lee. A complete list of winners and finalists for each category follows, and a special summer edition of Modern Builder, the magazine published by The Builders, will feature more detailed spotlights of the projects and initiatives.
