On Wednesday, Jan. 8, at 12 p.m. CST, the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) and Sage released its national and state* construction hiring and business forecasts for 2025 during a virtual media briefing. The outlook reflects contractors’ expectations for demand for different types of construction and for hiring, their biggest challenges and their plans for the year. It is based on survey responses from nearly 1,300 contractors across the country.

During the briefing, AGC of America’s chief economist, Ken Simonson, shared details of the outlook. AGC of America chief executive officer Jeff Shoaf expressed contractors have a largely positive view about prospects for projects available to bid on in 2025, and Sage’s vice president of construction and real estate, Dustin Stephens, provided an analysis of the industry’s technology expectations for the year. Construction contractors discussed their expectations for the year and local market conditions.

Andy Heitmann, 2025 Chair of The Builders, a chapter of the AGC Board of Directors, shared his observations about local market conditions and expectations for 2025, including the ongoing effort to attract more people to the trades, and a push to leverage technology.
